Alice Cooper

On February 24th 2011, Los Angeles press gathered in the lush VIP room at Club Nokia to await announcement of the nominees and presenters for this year’s 3rd annual Golden Gods Awards presented by Revolver Magazine.  The event, which will be televised on VH1 classic May 28th, is the only hard-rock and heavy metal award show of its kind.  On hand to announce the nominees in eight different categories was WWE pro-wresting legend and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho, who will be hosting this year’s show.  Also on hand, were Alice Cooper, Motley Crue’s Mick Mars, Sebastian Bach, Wendy Dio and pro skateboarder Mike Vallely.  Special awards include the “Golden God” award and the “Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award.”  The “Golden God Award”, which is given to one special honoree per year who “embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal”, will be presented to legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper, who is celebrating the reunion of the original Alice Cooper Group and their induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.  The Alice Cooper Group will also be playing live at the event, in their first time onstage together in 30 some years!   The “Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award” will be presented this year to Sunset Strip Super-heros Motley Crue.

Mick Mars

Fans can vote for their favorite nominees in several other categories including “Epiphone Best Guitarist”, “Drum Workshop Best Drummer”, “Best Vocalist”, “Affliction Album of the Year”, “Samson/Zoom Best Live Band”, “Most Metal Athlete”(I was confused by this one, too.), “Best New Band” and “Eagle Rock Comeback of the Year.”  Voting is already in affect and ends April 1st.  Presenters include Rob Zombie, Yngwie Malmsteen, action sports stars Mike Vallely, Chris Cole, Jason Ellis and Carey Hart, as well as members of Alice In Chains, Pantera, Hatebreed, Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, The Pretty Reckless, Dethlok, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Five Finger Death Punch.  More presenters will be added soon.  There will be live performances by Alice Cooper, Loaded (featuring Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver), Devildriver (who will lead an all-star Black Flag tribute set featuring Jamey Jasta and many others), Volbeat, Fozzy, and up and coming metalcore outfit Asking Alexandria, who will be joined onstage by Sebastian Bach for a rendition of Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild.”  More performers will also be announced.

The Golden Gods Awards will be held Wednesday April 20th at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles.  You may purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com.  To view the complete list of nominees and cast your vote go to www.revolvermag.com.
